Tyler Herro handing out school supplies to Miami community

Typically, Tyler Herro is in the news for his latest Chipotle endorsement or rolling out his own personal brand of breakfast cereal, but recently, the former Kentucky Wildcat has used his fame to better his community.
On Wednesday, the Tyler Herro Foundation went a community in the Miami area where he and his foundation members donated school supplies and backpacks to students in need.
“It’s important to start the school year off on the right foot,” Herro said. “By giving these kids backpacks and supplies, I just wanted to give back and make sure that they have the right supplies and tools to get through a long year of school.”
Despite rumors swirling earlier this year surrounding the Miami Heat’s “concerns” over the shooting guard’s celebrity status, he’s been making a major impact in people’s lives over the summer. Herro donated supplies following the collapse of a Miami apartment building in June and also hosted a youth basketball camp in Lexington at the beginning of August.

Herro spent one season at Kentucky from 2018-19 before being drafted by the Heat with the 13th overall pick in the 2019 Draft. He quickly emerged onto the national scene as a rookie in 2019-20, averaging 13.5 points on nearly 39 percent shooting from three-point range as Miami made a run to the NBA Finals during last season’s bubble. Herro proceeded to follow that performance up in 2020-21 with an average of 15.1 points per outing on 36.0 percent shooting from deep. He didn’t take the leap from year one to year two that many would have hoped, but the future is still incredibly bright for the 21-year-old former Wildcat.
If Herro’s fame continues to make him put an effort into helping others, I’m all for it, and I’m sure the Miami Heat is too.
