Tyson Gay Tests Positive For Banned Substance

by: Will Totten07/14/13@WillTottenKSR

Former Lafayette High School track star and 4-time American champion sprinter Tyson Gay announced that he is dropping out of the World Championships in Moscow, Russia next month after testing positive for a banned substance on May 16th, according to the Associated Press.

Gay isn’t revealing the substance, but he says he was notified by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency on Friday that a sample came back positive from an out-of-competition test May 16. He says he will have his “B” sample tested soon.

The 30-year-old Gay fought back sobs in a phone conversation Sunday from Amsterdam, saying: “I don’t have a sabotage story. … I basically put my trust in someone and was let down.”

A sad, sad story for the American record holder in the 100m dash at 9.69 seconds.
