volleyball As we wait for the home-opening festvities at Commonwealth this evening, I thought I'd give you a quick look at how the other fall sports are going so far in their seasons. So that's what I'm doing. Men's Soccer After going through their first four games without a loss, the Wildcats dropped their first contest of the year last night, a 1-0 overtime loss to Loyola Marymount. The Cats are hosting the Wildcat Invitational in Lexington this weekend, which also includes Houston Baptist and Butler in addition to the Lions. Kentucky finishes the tournament tomorrow afternoon against Houston Baptist before traveling to South Carolina for the Gamecock Invitational in Columbia next weekend. Women's Soccer The women's team has faced slightly tougher luck through the beginning of its season. Most recently, the ladies fell 2-0 to the evil birds from down the road. It was their second straight game being shutout, as they also lost 2-0 to Wake Forest in Winston-Salem. They'll look to end the streak and return to the form that helped them win their first three matches of the year as they host Marshall tomorrow at 5 p.m. Volleyball The Wildcat volleyball squad is also hosting a tournament this weekend, with Florida State, Virginia Commonwealth and the diet Wildcats of Kansas State coming to town. The Cats dropped the opener of the UK Invitational last night, a 3-2 loss to FSU in a rematch from last year's NCAA tournament. They recovered well, though, besting VCU earlier today before they take on Kansas State this afternoon. Then Cats, who were ranked 16th in the most recent coaches' poll and sit at 5-3 on the year, open their conference slate against fourth-ranked Florida this Friday at 7 p.m. at Memorial. Golf Both the men's and women's golf teams open their season this weekend. The men's team plays a the Wolf Run Intercollegiate, hosted by Indiana, starting today. The tournament also features Louisville, Penn State, Illinois and Michigan among others. The women's team begins play tomorrow at the Cougar Classic, hosted by the College of Charleston. The field also includes North and South Carolina, Penn State, Ole Miss and Wisconsin along with several other teams. -- The remaining fall sports get going in the next few weeks and we'll be sure to keep you updated on all of them. Or we'll forget and never speak of this again. Either way, we've got you covered.
