The Kentucky women's basketball team lost some of its help inside with the transfer of Deasia Merrill. A four-star prospect in ESPN's Class of 2019 rankings, Merrill signed with the Wildcats out of Villa Rica, Georgia, over opportunities at Duke, Pittsburgh, Miami, NC State, Rutgers, St. John's, Virginia, Ole Miss and Georgia Tech. However, once she got to Kentucky, Merrill suffered a season-ending knee injury that required surgery not long before her teammates were in the spotlight at Big Blue Madness. Coach Mitchell said at that time, "She was playing very hard, preparing for a successful season. Unfortunately, the injury is season-ending, but Deasia has shown remarkable resilience since the injury.” Now Merrill is exploring other options for her college career by way of the transfer market. "Deasia Merrill has decided to transfer from the Kentucky women's basketball program," the Kentucky women's basketball program announced in a Monday afternoon tweet. "We will do whatever we can to help her during this process and wish her the best in the future. Deasia will always find support and love from everyone in our program." Good luck to Deasia wherever she ends up.
