Louisville fan in Vince Marrow t-shirt probably doesn't want to see Marrow's heartfelt message to BBN

Today marks one week since the news broke that Vince Marrow is leaving Kentucky for Louisville. I think most of Big Blue Nation has moved on by now, but Marrow wants to deliver one final message to Kentucky fans as he embarks on his new life as an enemy of the state.

This morning, Athlete Advantage — which works with Kentucky on NIL partnerships — released a video in which Marrow says goodbye to BBN. With some dramatic piano music in the background, Marrow thanks Kentucky fans for their support over the last 13 years and opens up on his decision to leave Mark Stoops’ staff to become the executive director of player personnel and recruiting for Jeff Brohm at Louisville. As we’ve heard him say in several interviews now, that decision wasn’t easy; however, he insists it’s one he had to make for the betterment of his career.

“I want to talk to you guys, the Big Blue Nation. I really love you guys, and I really, really appreciate it because you guys really helped me build my career here with your support. When I first came here, I remember a buddy told me, ‘Why are you going there? You guys are going to be fired in two years.’ I was the lowest-paid coach. I heard all the jokes. I wanted to build and bring players in so we can win, and we can have some pride and dignity.

“It is hard. I’m not even going to sugarcoat it. It’s hard because of my loyalty to really you guys, the fans, but this is a job opportunity I feel I can’t pass up and I passed up several other ones that you guys as the fans know but just like a lot of you guys, you’ve got families, a lot of you guys have had opportunities with different jobs and you move and take it, you’re doing what’s best for your family. I’m doing what’s best for my career.

“I really enjoyed being here 13 years with you guys because you guys are a really good fanbase. To the Big Blue Nation, one of the best. I’m pretty sure you all are going to boo me when I come back though, but I really do love you guys.”

One person who is almost certainly rolling their eyes at this video? The Louisville fan who was spotted at the Cardinals’ College World Series game vs. Arizona wearing a “Vince Marrow: Biggest Heel Turn Since John Cena” t-shirt on Sunday. Sitting right behind home plate, this proud new Vince fan got plenty of TV time. After Louisville’s 8-3 win, he made the rounds at Rocco’s too, chipping in on the CWS Jello Shot Challenge:

It’s very nice of Vince to reach out to Kentucky fans, who obviously hold a special place in his heart; it’s clear in this video and the interviews he did on Friday that this was a tough decision for him. However, if you’re gonna turn heel, go ahead and turn heel. It’s time to move on. He’s right that Kentucky fans will boo him so he needs to go ahead and embrace it.

I never thought I’d say this, but I need fewer sappy videos and more Ls Up from Vince. Putting this out on a Monday morning (with UK’s NIL partner, nonetheless) reeks of regret.
