Wakeup for The First Early Game of the 2015 Football Season

We used to be pretty good at this noon game thing.  It was slow starting, but more sober experience than playing in prime time.  After eight night games, the Cats are finally back in the early shift.  I for one am happy for the change of pace, but could use some help waking up.

There, that’s better.

Today still feels very strange.  After two terrible losses, Kentucky is a double-digit underdog on the road, but the game is really a toss up.  Not just because Georgia has been less than adequate on the field since Nick Chubb’s injury, but because the off the field drama this week has been too crazy to sum up in a short sentence.  Whatever the hell is going on in that locker room, I hope it works as a distraction, rather than a uniting force to bring the team together to defeat Kentucky.

Here’s some primer before the noon kickoff on the SEC Network.

The Game is Going to be a Downpour

The downpour has already started in Sanford Stadium.

Like Ryan Lemond, I know to not always rely on meteorologists.  But there are exceptions and one of them is “80% chance of thunderstorms.”  That means it’s going to rain, and it’s going to rain hard.  If Kentucky isn’t stupid with the wet ball and wins the turnover battle, we could be seeing another rainy Surrender Cobra Between the Hedges.

A Homecoming for 10 Wildcats

The Kentucky football team has always had plenty of Georgia natives on the roster.  This year is no exception.  The Blaylock twins will play in their home-state for the final time, along with Fred Tiller, Khalid Henderson, and Jabari Johnson.  Some are returning home for the first time. JuCo transfer Courtney Miggins and the freshmen, running back Sihiem King, cornerback Jared Tucker and offensive lineman Calvin Taylor. The best of the group, former Bulldog commit and Monroe native Boom Williams, will not play today, but luckily his elbow injury isn’t as bad as we initially thought.  Boom’s absence opens the door for King to have a storybook moment, like when Juice had two TDs in Florida against his home-state school last year.  I wasn’t going to mention it to save the Mojo, but since Matt already picked him as his MVP on the radio show yesterday we can blame him if Sihiem plays poorly.

The KSR Pregame Show Starts in One Hour

We hate to make you wait any longer, but I have good idea: why don’t you listen to the KSR Podcast?  There’s plenty of analysis, stories from Jared and Freddie’s playing days, but most importantly, we’ll make you feel much better about Kentucky’s chances to get the win.  If that isn’t enough, I promise you’ll laugh at loud at least once.

Today Might be the Best College Football Weekend of the Season

And we’ll get to watch it all go down, making the timing of the SEC Network noon kickoff even better.  Here’s a quick rundown:

  • #16 Florida State at #1 Clemson, 3:30 on ABC

  • Arkansas at #18 Ole Miss, 3:30 on CBS

  • #8 TCU at #14 Oklahoma State, 3:30 on Fox

  • Auburn at #19 Texas A&M, 7:30 on the SEC Network

  • #2 LSU at #4 Alabama for the SEC West, on CBS at 8:00

A Fantastic Friday Night of Playoff Football

Lafayette is one of the best teams in 6A – picked by our own Trey Huntsman to reach the State Final – but was pushed to the brink of elimination last night against Dunbar.  Trailing by two touchdowns halfway through the 4th quarter, UK commit Walker Wood led his team on a 90-yard drive to put the game within reach.  Dunbar followed with a big play of their own.  On the precipice of putting the nail in the coffin, the Bulldogs tragically fumbled inside the Generals’ 5-yard line.  The ensuing scoop and score from 80+ yards away took the game to overtime before Lafayette got the win. Trey will be back later today to tell you about John Hardin’s playoff revitalization, and which UK commits survived for one more week.

Last Night was Also a Good Night for Basketball

Kentucky won by like a gazillion.  If you want to read more, you can scroll down, but that was last night.  This morning is reserved exclusively for Stoops Troops.  Except for the lob off the backboard.  You can keep watching this on loop from now until forever.

Donald Trump Hosts Saturday Night Live

Many of you may hate Donald Trump, even more of you may hate this SNL cast, but you cannot deny that tonight’s program will be high quality television.  Even if Trump is terrible, you won’t be able to look away from the train wreck.  Worst case scenario: you DVR the show and discover that Taran Kilam’s Trump impression is arguably the best in the country.

Start Your Day with a Laugh

Chuck Esterly made his stand-up comedy debut at 89-years young.  The man may not have a career in it, but it wouldn’t be a bad retirement job.  Sure, some of it is on the corny side but you gotta give the man credit for having the cojones to take his talents to the stage.

It can be a little vulgar for our younger viewers, just like all crazy grandpas.
