WATCH: Hayes Johnson's commitment and KSR interview at Taylor County High School

It was no ordinary Thursday morning at Taylor County High School in Campbellsville, Kentucky, where today, Hayes Johnson committed to Kentucky Football in the school’s auditorium. A junior at Taylor County, Johnson is the top-ranked offensive lineman in the state of Kentucky and he closed his recruitment on Thursday with a verbal pledge to become a Wildcat.
“I wear Kentucky blue,” Johnson told the audience before he grabbed the University of Kentucky hat from the table, leaving Michigan State, Louisville, Tennessee, and Baylor behind.
Outside the auditorium doors, Kentucky Sports Radio broadcasted Thursday morning’s show live from the school lobby. Matt Jones, Ryan Lemond, and I each drove to Campbellsville to cover Johnson’s announcement, but issues with the connection kept us outside of the auditorium and away from the ceremony.
However, we caught up with Johnson moments after his commitment for a radio interview that fans will want to hear. You can catch it on the second hour of today’s podcast, where topics with Johnson ranged from hunting to skipping class to his first interactions with Kentucky’s coaching staff and even a little funeral school.

Off air, KSR also spoke to Hayes’ father, Paul Johnson. A lifelong Kentucky fan, Johnson said, “We’re generational Kentucky fans and have grown up watching games since I was a little kid. So it’s just a dream come true, for a parent to be able to have your son play at the University of Kentucky. Big families on both sides that have been Kentucky fans for years, so it’s just a dream come true. It’s surreal.”
