Watch out folks.....here comes Chris Barnes....

by:Matt Jones09/05/06
As we enter into Wednesday, the one big recruiting note is about 6'8" 245 pound big man, Chris Barnes, from out of Atlanta, Georgia. As some of you may have heard, Barnes is an "under the radar" name that has become a big part of the 2007 recruiting radar for Kentucky and is one of the many individuals Kentucky is seeking at the power forward slot (although some say he can play center). Barnes is a wide body, with a powerful physique and he controls whatever basketball lane he is a part of. Barnes will be the feature guest tomorrow night on Episode 4 of Kentucky Sports Radio and you will be able to hear him for yourself. Until then, a bit of news. Barnes told me tonight that he has narrowed down his choices to Kentucky, Cincinnati, Florida and Wichita St. He has scheduled official visits to Kentucky and Florida (does Florida just recruit EVERYBODY?) and that Tubby Smith is scheduled to do an in-home visit with him next week. His father spoke glowingly of Tubby and said that as soon as Smith began recruiting Chris, his son "just lit up." Like Marshall Moses and AJ Stewart, the kid seems to not only like, but love, the prospect of attending UK. So of course the $64,000 question is, will Kentucky get Chris Barnes? Well I will be interested to hear his comments tomorrow on the air, but in my conversation tonight, Kentucky seemed like....if not the leader, then one of the co-leaders. Barnes said his entire recruiting outlook changed when Kentucky and Florida entered the picture and that he is excited about seeing what Kentucky has to offer. Like AJ Stewart and Marshall Moses, I see Chris Barnes being a player that Kentucky could get rather quickly (depending on how the Florida scenario develops) and providing some much-needed insurance in the continuing goal of developing a Patrick Patterson-led front line. Hear Chris for yourself tomorrow night.... And as for Alaskan Assassin Ramon Harris, word is that he has not yet been cleared, but he may end up here beginning as a second semester player. Either way, Ramon's myspace site (which I will not link here so as to not ruffle feathers....but it is funny) has as its title "From AK to UK".....so it looks like Ramon still believes he will be a Cat. Until tomorrow...
