There’s not a whole lot going on down in Oxford when it comes to basketball.  Okay, so there is absolutely nothing going on down in Oxford when it comes to basketball.

But I tried to compile a list of things that come to mind, anyway.  Please add more Ole Miss basketball memories (if any) in the comments section.

Jeannine asked a really bad question – When you look back at Billy Gillispie’s time at Kentucky, this interview says it all…

Brian Smith – Tubby’s point guard son – the one who didn’t have us pulling our hair out. Brian played high school at Lexington Catholic and led the Knights to the 2002 state title.  He joined the Ole Miss basketball team in 2004.

Terrico Wright’s coming out party – In 2009, Ole Miss freshman Terrico Wright exploded in Mississippi’s first win over Kentucky in 8 years.  White scored 21 points with 7 assists and 5 rebounds while dunking all over Patrick Patterson and Perry Stevenson. Now White is in his rookie season with the Detroit Pistons.

2001 Sweet Sixteen – Ole Miss was a No. 3 seed and made it to the Sweet Sixteen in the 2001 NCAA Tournament. It’s the only time you’ve ever heard of the Rebels basketball program doing anything in March.  Basketball historians still question the success.

“Assault? Why Jiddou That?” – In 2008, a Cincinnati cab driver named Mohamed Moctar Ould Jiddou accused Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy of punching him in the face and calling him “Osama” and “Saddam Huessein.”  Kennedy avoided a possible six-month jail sentence on the original first-degree misdemeanor assault charge by pleading down to disorderly conduct.  Whether he did it or not, the police cruiser video is pretty entertaining…

Kimber Kennedy sues for “lack of consortium” – Andy Kennedy’s wife said the claims against her husband from that night in Cincinnati ruined the couple’s sex life. So she sued the cab driver for the Ole Miss basketball coach’s lack of playing time and inability to take it to the hole.

David Huertas – That’s all I got.  David Huertas.

It’s going to be a Red Out in Tad Coliseum when Kentucky and Ole Miss tip-off at 7 pm.
