John Calipari is in New York today to see Hamidou Diallo and Mohamed Bamba, who, coincidentally are the two players Scout.com's Evan Daniels was most impressed by at last weekend's EYBL event in Brooklyn. Daniels was on Matt's podcast earlier this week and said Bamba, a seven-foot power forward/center currently ranked second in the class by Scout, has potential to move into the top spot after an impressive weekend. "After watching this past weekend, Mohamed Bamba is certainly in that conversation and is gonna be a strong candidate for that top spot," Daniels said. "He's seven foot tall, 7'8" wingspan, 9'6" standing reach. I think those measurables would be in the three to five in the NBA right now." So, he's tall. But is there more to his game? Daniels thinks so. "He hit an elbow jumper, he averaged 15 points and 16 rebounds at the EYBL sessions this weekend in three games. He's starting to finally add some weight. I don't want to call him a late bloomer, but he's one of those guys that when you watch him, you see him get a little better at something, and he used to be really thin and skinny and now he's putting on weight and it's helped his game tremendously." Daniels said Bamba got the best of DeAndre Ayton in a matchup over the weekend and he expects Calipari and staff to go "all out" on him, Kevin Knox, and Hamidou Diallo, starting with this week's in-home visits.
