Will it be another Cat-less All-American game?

by:Thomas Beisner02/18/09
A few weeks ago, I wrote in a night post how much of a crying shame I thought it would be if Jon Hood wasn't named to the McDonald's All-American game this year considering the combination of his national ranking, his choice of college and the ridiculous numbers he's put up on a not-so-exceptional team (29 points and 13 rebounds!).  Well, many of you disagreed, some of you joined in on my grumbling and others asked if Kentucky Ale is available in California (not sure).  But, regardless, we'll all get our answers this evening as the McDonald's All-American rosters are announced on ESPNU at 6 pm.  And, unfortunately for all of fans of large events boosting the egos of teenagers, it looks like this game isn't going to include any future Wildcats for the 7th time in 11 seasons. That is, of course, according to the always reliable "leaked list" that surfaced over at Zag's Blog last week, which inluded the names of 17 players. Here are the players that are supposedly going to be included this year: Abdul Gaddy (Washington) Avery Bradley (Texas) Alex Oriakhi (UConn) Maalik Wayns (Villanova) Dominic Cheek (Villanova) Tommy Mason-Griffin (Oklahoma) Kenny Boynton (Florida) Ryan Kelly Pooptooth (Duke) David & Travis Wear (UNC) Xavier Henry (Memphis) Keith “Tiny” Gallon (Oklahoma) Dante Taylor (Pitt) Wally Judge (Kansas State) DeMarcus Cousins (Undecided) Dexter Strickland (UNC) John Henson (UNC) You would have to assume that guys like John Wall, Renardo Sidney, Derrick Favors and Lance Stephenson will be added as well and it's probably pretty likely that Hood, who is probably the most worthy of the UK group to get named, doesn't get the nod. But, as one moron once wrote, is it really all that important? And, seriously, how many guys on that list are better than Hood and Orton (I know he's hurt)?  I dont know. That's for you to decide. I'm just trying to take your mind off of last night.
