After scoring five touchdowns vs. LSU, Will Levis is a popular guy. Kentucky’s quarterback joined Peter Burns and Chris Doering on SEC This Morning today to discuss the Wildcats’ undefeated season, which comes to a head this weekend vs. No. 1 Georgia. The trio covered a lot of ground during the 10-minute interview, but here are the five things that stood out to me.

Levis was surprised by the decision to go for it on 4th down on the first drive

Kentucky’s offense made a statement vs. LSU from the start. Three plays after Levis’ touchdown pass to Izayah Cummings was ruled incomplete, the Cats rolled the dice and went for it on fourth and goal from the three-yard line. It worked.

“That was big,” Levis said of the play. “It just shows how much confidence our coaches have in our offense. I’m glad we were able to put the ball in the end zone and that started off a really good offensive game for us.”

Kentucky could have easily kicked the field goal to get points on the board. Even Levis admitted he thought the coaches would go the safe route but was pleased to get one more chance to punch it in with a pass to Chris Rodriguez.

“Yeah, I was surprised honestly. It was fourth down and we were on the four, maybe the five. As soon as they called it, I was like, alright, let’s do this. Just going to do whatever the coaches ask of me and if it’s going for it on fourth down, we’re going to get it. It was kicking the field goal or going for it. I was going to trust their decision-making. That’s their job to make those decisions and in that instance, obviously, they made the right choice.”

“A touchdown is a touchdown”

Levis accounted for five of Kentucky’s touchdowns Saturday, three passing and two rushing, a performance that earned him Walter Camp National Offensive Player of the Week. When asked if he prefers running for a score or throwing for one, Levis gave the perfect answer.

“A touchdown is a touchdown, regardless of who scores it. If it’s me or a running back or tight end or a receiver, they all feel the same. They all feel awesome. They all put the same amount of points on the board. It doesn’t matter how it gets done or who gets it done. I just love touchdowns.”

Facing No. 1 Georgia: “These are the things that you dream of”

Kentucky faces a monumental challenge on Saturday: taking down No. 1 Georgia in Athens. Levis, who transferred to Kentucky from Penn State in February, said these are the opportunities he came to the SEC for.

“Talented, fast, physical,” Levis said of the Bulldogs. “They’re the No. 1 team in the country. These are the things that you dream of. Not many people get to play the No. 1 team in the country in the year, let alone their whole college football career. This is really cool, going into an environment at Sanford Stadium in Athens. That’s one of the ones I was really looking forward to experiencing when I came to the SEC. Just really excited to play them and to see a really, really good defense and see what we’re made of.”

No plans yet for the next viral video

From eating unpeeled bananas to drinking coffee with mayonnaise, Levis know how to get his name out there. When asked what weird food or beverage he’ll consume next, Levis said he’s waiting for the inspiration to come to him.

“Nothing yet. If something comes to me, it will come to me but there’s nothing planned right now.”

He loves Justin Bieber — but doesn’t own headphones?

In his UK bio, Levis claims to be a huge Justin Bieber fan, particularly his pre-2012 work. With no new quirky food or drink videos to hang on to, Doering asked Levis about his love for the Biebs.

“Kind of strayed away from it this year. Honestly, I actually don’t even own a pair of headphones right now which is kind of sad, I haven’t made that purchase yet. I love Justin Bieber. I love his early stuff — I love his new stuff too, but Justin Bieber growing up was one of those dudes that all the girls were flocking around and you became kind of jealous of, and then when you mature and get older, you realize just how good of an artist he is. He truly is an awesome dude and I just like listening to his earlier stuff.”

Add Bose to the list of companies that need to give Levis a NIL deal.
