The Kentucky football season is less than 100 days as Mark Stoops gets his 10th team primed and ready to go. The 2022 team has a chance to be special due to Will Levis returning behind center.

The redshirt senior has received a ton of offseason buzz from those in the draft community and many in the Bluegrass are hopeful that Will Levis can build from a campaign that saw him record 33 total touchdowns while averaging eight yards per attempt and six yards per non-sack rush attempt.

PFF is a big believer in Levis, and Lead Draft Analyst Mike Renner has the Kentucky quarterback as the No. 4 draft prospect behind Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, and Tanner McKee.

“Levis was one of the biggest risers in college football last season,” Renner writes. “He went from not even being able to beat out Sean Clifford at Penn State to the second-highest-graded quarterback in the SEC (90.6 overall). And he did it all in a pro-style offense under now-Rams offensive coordinator Liam Coen.”

The returning Kentucky quarterback has legitimate traits thanks to his size, movement ability, and big arm. That easily gets people excited. However, decision making and protecting the football have been a pair of areas folks would like to see improvement from Levis. Yet, the play-by-play grading shows a quarterback that caught some bad on the field breaks in 2021.

“Levis is one of the rare college quarterbacks whose PFF grade is actually better than his stats might suggest,” Renner points out. “That’s because he suffered from a rough case of turnover luck. He threw 13 interceptions last season but recorded only 11 turnover-worthy plays. That’s fewer than C.J. Stroud, who finished with just six interceptions.”

The buzz is not slowing down for Will Levis as new offensive coordinator Rich Scangarello has inherited a legit pro prospect behind center who has a chance to make some big-time noise on the field this fall.
