Mark Stoops has his quarterback and it comes as little surprise to the Big Blue Nation. Will Levis is now QB1.

According to KSR’s Matt Jones, a source tells him that Kentucky Football head coach Mark Stoops named Levis as the starting quarterback for the season-opener against UL-Monroe on Sept. 4. Stoops informed the team over the weekend.

The transfer from Penn State spent three seasons with the Nittany Lions before coming to Kentucky earlier this year. Recent rumblings (including Vince Marrow seemingly spilling the beans) seemed to indicate that Levis would eventually earn the starting spot.

Levis won the job over Joey Gatewood and Beau Allen, the two main competitors for the starting gig. Over the last few months, the coaching staff has tried to keep it relatively quiet on who might be leading the race, but with just a few more weeks until kickoff, it became time to make things official so everyone else can fall into their role.

September can’t get here soon enough…
