You Knew It Was Coming (plus Coach Cal Dances)

photo via a friend of a friend of a friend (boom, incepted!) When John Calipari took the Kentucky job, we all knew a national championship was coming under Cal.  There was no doubt about it. Your blue blood was already pumping and you were preparing your vocal chords for their imminent destruction.  Corey Nichols himself, famed prognosticator, predicted this with certainty back in April of 2010, merely days after Gordon Lightfoot Bombay Hayward almost hit the biggest shot in NCAA history.  And we all remember El Capitan Jones' tour de force performance on Grantland in which he made the case that this was Kentucky's year to win it all. It was a given that Michael Kidd-Gilchrist was going to join the Big Blue train at that point, and the hype for the 2011 recruiting class went through the roof.  While John Wall and the 2009-2010 Wildcats were a special bunch who changed the face of Kentucky basketball forever, fans predicted early on that the 2011-2012 team was going to be the one who showed the nation was greatness (er, gr8ness!) truly looks like.  And these predictions were happening before Anthony Davis had become the superhuman version of Anthony Davis before us today. As the Caeser's Palace sportsbook ticket from October of 2011 above shows, UK fans knew this was going to be the year.  They knew it enough to predict this title two years ago.  They knew it enough to wager their hard-earned money on the team they love before these kids had even played their first game of the season.  While I make no contention that gambling is the best way to show faith in your team, but it's evidence of a strong belief that something is going to happen. And it did. So go collect your winnings, UK fans.  We've been waiting a long time for this.  And make sure you celebrate by 'doing a little dance' like Coach Cal below:
