4-star TE Mac Markway sets LSU official visit

2023 Saint Louis (Mo.) DeSmet tight end Mac Markway announced his commitment to LSU last month. Now, he’s set his official visit to Baton Rouge for June 18. He announced on Twitter that it’ll be his only official visit during his recruitment.

Markway immediately became a huge target for the Tigers once Kelly was hired along with assistants Brian Polian and Robert Steeples, who coached Markway at DeSmet prior to joining the Minnesota Vikings staff. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock recruited him in the past and made him a priority. Polian recruited Markway while at Notre Dame. It all came together for the family on an unofficial visit last month.

“When we started seeing things come together at LSU with coach Kelly first. Then coach Polian then Kerry Cooks, who I played with at Iowa, then coach Steeples obviously. Mac loved playing high school ball for him. Then you threw coach Denbrock in there, who has such great history with tight ends at Notre Dame and at Cincinnati,” his father Matt Markway told The Bengal Tiger. “A really powerful source in that staff room is Terry Malone being an analyst at LSU is huge. He was the tight ends coach for the New Orleans Saints for 13 years. The tight end knowledge at that school right now between Kelly, Denbrock and Malone, I don’t think anyone can compete with that knowledge anywhere in the country.”

According to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, Markway ranks as the No. 118 overall prospect in the country, No. 9 tight end in the nation and No. 5 prospect in Missouri.

Mac Markway held offers from the likes of Iowa, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and numerous others. LSU surged for the one-time Florida commit in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine after his visit to LSU.

Markway currently has an On3 NIL Valuation of $22,000. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time. Markway ranks No. 428 in the High School Football NIL Rankings.
