2023 Saint Louis (Mo.) DeSmet tight end Mac Markway announced his commitment to LSU on Twitter. The 6-4, 250-pounder gave the Tigers their first pledge in the 2023 class since Brian Kelly was hired.

Markway immediately became a huge target for the Tigers once Kelly was hired along with assistants Brian Polian and Robert Steeples, who coached Markway at DeSmet prior to joining the Minnesota Vikings staff. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock recruited him in the past and made him a priority. Polian recruited Markway while at Notre Dame.

Mac Markway and his family were in Baton Rouge for an unofficial visit earlier this month. Offensive coordinator Mike Denbrock and Kelly both impressed on the visit with their plan for him and the program.

“He (Denbrock) is a great guy! We talked about what their goal is and how they are going to achieve it. I’m really excited to see,” Markway told The Bengal Tiger after the visit. “He (Kelly) was also first class. We talked about everything that he wants to do with the program and how they will use me. The tight end will definitely be the heart and soul of that team.”

Mac Markway held offers from the likes of Iowa, where his father played football, Miami, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State and numerous others. LSU surged for the one-time Florida commit in the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine after his visit to LSU.

LSU also holds a 2023 commitment from Vivian (La.) North Caddo wide receiver Omarion Miller, one of the best wideouts in America. Miller recently shined at Battle New Orleans, earning a top performer nod. On the On3 Consensus, he’s the No. 107 overall prospect, No. 18 wideout and No. 8 prospect in Louisiana.
