Brian Kelly undergoing 'full evaluation' of LSU staff

LSU head coach Brian Kelly spoke with Paul Finebaum to kick off the first week after the regular season ended for his Tigers. Naturally, “what’s next?,” is the question being asked as he looks to the future with his program.
The rumors are swirling in regards to changes, but this week is about evaluating for Kelly and his staff.
“You want to do a full evaluation of your coaches, your support staff, everybody that’s involved in the program,” Kelly told Finebaum. “We’ll do that over the next week or so. I think if you’re honest and open about what the strengths are and the weaknesses and how you go about doing that on a day-to-day basis, it makes it a lot easier.
“If you’re not communicating with your staff and you’re not open and honest with conversations during the week and during the season then sometimes having these conversations at the end of the season, they become a surprise. I don’t think there’s many surprises within our program because we’re pretty transparent with what’s going on.”
Defensively in particular, the Tigers struggled this season under defensive coordinator Matt House. The staff is looking to retool and reload though with the staff identifying needs that need to be addressed.

The goal ultimately is to win an SEC Championship under Kelly, who has the chance to finish with back-to-back 10-win seasons to start his career in Baton Rouge.
“We had some struggles, certainly on the defensive side of the ball,” Kelly said. “We know where the problems are and what needs to be addressed. We’ll sit down and have to make decisions as to what is the best thing for our program moving forward because our standard is very high here. It’s not about going 9-3. We want to win a championship. We’ve got to take the next step and we have to look internally.
“What do we need to do in terms of recruiting? What do we need to do about coaching and coaching at a higher level? How do we support that institutionally? All those factors have to be looked at over the next week to 10 days.”
