Eli Drinkwitz asked about interest in LSU job on Wednesday

LSU’s coaching search has remained locked in on Lane Kiffin through the past few weeks as Verge Ausberry and the university are locked in on their top target. The Tigers continue to battle with Ole Miss and Florida for Kiffin, but if that were to fall through, On3’s Pete Nakos has reported that Eli Drinkwitz is a name to watch in the coaching search for LSU, as well as several other teams.
On Wednesday, Drinkwitz was asked about the LSU job specifically and refused to comment on the opening.
“Yeah, I’m not gonna make any comments about jobs,” Eli Drinkwitz said. “I’m talking about the Oklahoma game. See my press conference from yesterday about my statement regarding that position. But I appreciate the question.”
On Tuesday, Drinkwitz went out of his way to shoot down any rumors and noise as his team sits at 7-3 on the year and faces Oklahoma on the road on Saturday afternoon.
“All of this stuff is just a distraction,” Drinkwitz said. “I would like to remind everybody, including our fans, we absolutely love Mizzou. We love what we’re building. … My focus is going to remain on our team and our current situation and I am not going to get into all of that.”
Kiffin is reportedly pressed on time to make a decision from Ole Miss, so we could hear something in the coming week, but for now, all eyes remain on Oxford. If Kiffin were to not choose LSU, the list of candidates would grow significantly as everyone would throw their hat in the ring to get one of the premier jobs in the sport.

Fox college football analyst Joel Klatt is one of many who has called it a top job in the sport. This is what he said when talking with Colin Cowherd when Brian Kelly was fired.
“I think LSU is and, Colin, I would go a step further and say I think LSU is a top-three job in the entire sport,” Klatt said. “I think only Texas and maybe Ohio State are better than LSU. I think LSU is a better job than ‘Bama. I think it’s arguable between LSU and Georgia.”
“They’ve got incredible resources,” he said. “The recruiting pipeline is right there; you’re in the middle of everything in terms of recruiting. They have tradition. Guys can win national championships there [at LSU]. So it comes down to fit.”
