Friday Night Lights: LSU Recruiting Tidbits

For the first time in program history, the LSU football staff hosted a Friday Night Lights camp that took recruits onto the field in Tiger Stadium.
Five-star quarterback Bryce Underwood was among the headliners, but there was plenty more talent on hand for the event.
Here are some quick takeaways from the night.
*** For the first time ever, the staff took the campers into Tiger Stadium. They had the top performing guys go in 7-on-7 work on each side of the field. We got a lot of video and cool photos of the guys working out on the field, which was wild to see since we haven’t experienced that before (nor had any recruit).
*** 5-star QB Bryce Underwood was as expected. He doesn’t look like a 15-year old. Throws a great ball, already has good size and commands the guys well. He was spending tons of time with QBs coach Joe Sloan, and after things ended he went and spent time with LSU commit Ju’Juan Johnson and a couple big LSU RB targets in Louisiana for 2025 in Harlem Berry and James Simon.
*** It was a lot of fun to watch Harlem Berry and James Simon. Those guys are no-doubt two of the best RB prospects in America. Frank Wilson didn’t leave their side. Simon’s dad is a coach at Grambling, so he was out there on the field with the rest of the in-state coaches that they invite in to evaluate camp. You could tell it was a special moment for him to be coaching his son through drills and 7-on-7 inside Tiger Stadium. Again, Berry and Simon are special. Nobody was close to where they are at right now, even as rising juniors.

*** If there was one CB that Bryce Underwood had trouble getting passes completed on, it was LSU CB commit Ju’Juan Johnson. He was blanketing everyone they threw out there. Probably one of the best DB days I’ve seen him have. For a kid who plays QB right now in HS, he looked VERY smooth at CB. The LSU defensive coaches were all out there and continued to sing his praises.
*** Have to give a shout out to LSU S commit Dashawn McBryde as well. Long and rangy. He made a number of plays from the S spot when he was playing behind Ju’Juan Johnson. Those two worked well together to make it tough to even go to that side of the field. LSU DC Matt House, CB coach Robert Steeples and S coach Kerry Cooks were all out there working with those two the entire stretch.
*** The entire staff was out there coaching, so they are going to quickly shift to official visitors. They are eating dinner in Tiger Stadium tonight with the official visitors, and I’m told some others will join them. That includes 5-star QB Bryce Underwood…
