BATON ROUGE – After a spectacular 20 points-10 rebounds effort in a road SEC opening Saturday win over Texas A&M, LSU’s Jordan Wright was named Co-Southeastern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday.

Wright and South Carolina guard Meechie Johnson shared the honors.

Wright, a grad student from Waggaman, Louisiana also had two assists, two steals and a block in the win at Texas A&M that stopped a 13-game road losing streak for the Tigers dating back to February 2022.

It marked Wright’s 10th career double double.

Wright and the Tigers will host Vanderbilt Tuesday night at 8 p.m. in the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. Tickets are available online at LSUTix.net.

Jordan Wright before the Texas A&M game

“Our past three games have been really good and there’s been a better rhythm and better flow. Having Jalen back has really changed that, honestly. The way he sees the floor helps and then having those extra practices to find our groove heading into SEC play is very exciting.”

“The biggest thing is that toughness wins. With A&M last year, they weren’t the most talented team, but they were tough. All of the teams that have been successful in the sEC have been tough and we need to bring that identity to be successful. We have everything we need, but we need to bring that fight and I think we’ll be happy with the results.”

Matt McMahon after LSU’s win over Texas A&M

“I’m really proud of these players. The physicality and toughness was on full display. Every area that we’ve been trying to make improvements in were the strengths of this A&M team. Their ability to dominate the glass, get to the free throw line, and win the turnover battle and I can’t say enough about our guys’ defensive rebounding and also our rim protection. Even when guys got beat we came over to help and didn’t foul. Then, I liked our composure on the offensive side of the ball. We didn’t shoot a great percentage, but we got good shots and guys took care of the ball.”
