CWS LIVE Game Blog - FINAL: LSU 9, UCLA 5
With lightning postponing LSU Baseball’s College World Series game vs. UCLA on Monday night, play resumed on Tuesday morning with the Tigers up 5-3 in the fourth inning.
The Game 2 matchup in the winner’s bracket between the Tigers and Bruins was stopped at 7:20 p.m. CT following a 6 p.m. first pitch on Monday. Three hours later, NCAA officials decided the game would resume the following morning.
On Monday night, UCLA got on the board first with three runs in the first inning.
Anthony Eyanson settled in after giving up three runs in the first inning to hold the Bruins scoreless across the next two innings, finishing with 32 total pitches before the game was stopped as a result of lightning in the area.
LSU’s lead came thanks to a quick bounce back showing from Bear Jones, who struck out on all five of his plate appearances in the team’s win over Arkansas in Game 1 of the College World Series. In his first at bat vs. UCLA, Jones hit a ball over the wall in right field for a three-run home run.

The home run from Jones gave LSU the lead. Moments earlier, Jake Brown’s RBI single scored Ethan Frey for the first run of the game for the Tigers.
In the third inning, catcher Luis Hernandez put another run on the board with a two-out single to give LSU a 5-3 lead.
Ahead of the start of the fourth inning, the weather delay began.
The winner of the LSU-UCLA game will advanced to the winner’s bracket round at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday.
The loser of the LSU-UCLA game will meet Arkansas in an elimination game at 6 p.m. CT Tuesday.

LSU, UCLA resumes with Casan Evans on the mound
06/17/2025 10:07:56 AMThe Tigers started Anthony Eyanson in the Game 2 matchup with UCLA on Monday, but as the weather delay stretched into the night – and eventually into the following morning – it became evident LSU wouldn’t be able to turn to the program’s Saturday starter again. LSU head coach Jay Johnson remained mum on his plan until just before first pitch on Tuesday morning. The result: Casan Evans, who has hit his stride this postseason, was first to the mound. Evans held the four batters he faced in the fourth inning to no runs and one hit with a ground ball for an out and a pair of strikeouts on 18 pitches.
LSU jumps on UCLA right away, extends lead to 7-3
06/17/2025 10:34:25 AMWith LSU ahead 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth inning, the Bruins got to two outs before the bats caught fire – and forced UCLA into an immediate pitching change before the Bruins could record the third out. A single from Milam scored Derek Curiel before a single from Jake Brown scored Frey to give LSU the 7-3 lead. The Bruins pulled starter Wylan Moss after he gave up a pair of runs and three hits on 24 pitches. Cal Randall stepped in to get the final out of the inning.
Evans goes 1-2-3 for LSU in the 5th inning
06/17/2025 10:39:17 AMEvans worked quickly through the top of the 5th inning with a strikeout, fly out and ground ball to first base – a ball down the line played well by Jared Jones for the unassisted out to end the inning. Evans needed just 10 pitches to retire the trio of Bruins he faced.
Milam takes over early in the day for the Tigers
06/17/2025 10:57:19 AMSteven Milam had already scored a run to help give LSU the 5-3 lead ahead of Monday night’s weather delay, and he picked up where he left off with an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth on Tuesday. In the top of the sixth inning, Milam fielded a chopper up the middle, got to second base for the out, and made a throw on a rope to get the double-play with the out at first base to end the inning.
LSU takes an 8-3 lead into the 8th inning
06/17/2025 11:38:56 AMEvans needed 57 pitches to work through four innings for LSU, giving up no runs, walks or hit batters while holding UCLA’s batters to four hits between the fourth and seventh innings. While the Tigers were able to get runners on base multiple times after taking a 7-3 lead in the bottom of the fourth inning, LSU did not plate another run until Daniel Dickinson came through with an RBI single with two outs and a two-strike count. Dickinson’s RBI scored Jones before the Bruins were able to get out of the inning.
Shores steps in for one pitch, UCLA leaves the bases loaded
06/17/2025 12:08:29 PMCasan Evans was pulled in the eighth inning after two runners got on base, and LSU head coach Jay Johnson turned to left-hander Cooper Williams. The freshman allowed a walk that led to an RBI on a fielder’s choice and another run scored on an infield hit up the middle that left second baseman Daniel Dickinson with nowhere to go with the ball. Another walk loaded the bases, and Johnson pulled Williams for Chase Shores. One pitch later, Shores forced UCLA into a fielder’s choice for Milam to end the inning and leave the bases loaded after the Bruins put two runs on the board to cut into LSU’s lead. The Tigers took an 8-5 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning. For Evans, who got the start when play resumed on Tuesday morning, the final stat line was 68 pitches across 4.1 innings with two earned runs on four hits. He struck out five batters and didn’t allow a double, triple, or home run during his CWS outing.
UCLA goes to pitcher No. 8 in the bottom of the 8th inning
06/17/2025 12:18:51 PMWith 7.1 innings pitched by UCLA’s staff, the Bruins went to the eighth arm of the day by bringing in the program’s closer Easton Hawk with one out, a runner on base and Steven Milam at the plate for the Tigers.
LSU’s bats jump on UCLA’s closer
06/17/2025 12:24:31 PMMilam went down swinging for the second out of the inning, but Jake Brown stepped up with his third hit of the game to put runners on first and third and Bear Jones at the plate for LSU. Jones quickly singled to center field to score Frey and put Brown on third base. With runners on the corner, Hawk hit LSU catcher Christian Gonzales on the first pitch of his at bat, which loaded the bases for LSU with two outs and Christian Braswell at the plate. Braswell flied out to left field to end the inning, but the insurance run came as the Tigers took a 9-5 lead into the ninth inning, which put LSU three outs away from starting 2-0 in Omaha.

06/17/2025 12:34:26 PMShores returned to the mound in the ninth inning with a groundout to retire the first UCLA batter. The next pitch: another infield groundout. With LSU up four runs and the Bruins down to the team’s final out, Shores needed just four pitches to get three straight outs on hits to second baseman Daniel Dickinson and secure the win and 2-0 start to the 2025 College World Series.
