The first game of the NCAA’s Baton Rouge Regional is underway for the LSU Baseball team after a weather delay of more than five hours.

With first pitch initially set for 2 p.m. CT, lightning and rain in the area brought out the tarp and multiple decisions to push back the expected start time – eventually landing on a first pitch that came just after 7:30 p.m.

LSU head coach Jay Johnson had been mum on who the Tigers would choose to pitch against Little Rock in Game 1 of the Baton Rouge Regional, and the decision was revealed Friday afternoon when the program announced Anthony Eyanson as the starting pitcher. Eyanson, one of the country’s top pitchers alongside LSU’s Friday night starter Kade Anderson, has been dominant on Saturdays during SEC competition this season.

LSU wastes no time getting on the board

Given LSU struggled at the plate in two games at the SEC Tournament, scoring a run and getting a pair of hits in the first inning has to be considered a success. The downside: the Tigers left the bases loaded when Luis Hernandez struck out swinging to end the first inning.

Eyanson worked through the top of the second quickly when he got a fly out and a pair of groundouts in less than 10 pitches. In the bottom of the second inning, LSU matched the first inning with a pair of hits and one run, this time scoring on an RBI from Bear Jones. After two innings, LSU leads Little Rock 2-0.

Eyanson keeps dealing in starting role for the Tigers

The decision to start Anthony Eyanson turned into a good one for LSU head coach Jay Johnson given the Tigers lead was still only three runs after six innings. Through the first six innings, Eyanson sat at 83 pitches with no runs allowed on four hits, one walk, one batter hit by a pitch, and seven strikeouts.

Dickinson hits back-to-back HR’s as LSU piles on in 6th inning

Daniel Dickinson’s 11th home run was followed by his 12th home run of the season on his next at bat. After Chris Stanfield scored from first base on a hit to the wall by Derek Curiel, Dickinson stepped to the plate with two outs and a runner on second and sent the ball over the left field wall. The Tigers got a runner in scoring position following the two-run home run, but Ethan Frey went down swinging on a full count to stop the scoring at 6-0 through six innings.

LSU makes it 7-0 (and nearly more…) after seven innings

The Tigers kept the runs coming in the seventh inning after Eyanson gave up a hit to the first batter he faced before retiring the next three batters on ground balls. LSU went up 7-0 when Steven Milam’s double turned into an RBI from Michael Braswell III. With Braswell and Curiel on base, Jones nearly made it 10-0 on a deep drive to right, but the ball was caught just short of the wall to end the inning with just one run given up for Little Rock.

Eyanson leaves to standing ovation after 98 pitches and no runs

The Alex Box postseason crowd gave LSU starting pitcher a standing ovation in the top of the eighth inning when LSU starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson was taken out of the game after 98 pitches. Eyanson gave up no runs on five hits and a walk while striking out seven batters. He was replaced by DJ Primeaux, who stepped in with two outs and got out of the inning immediately on an infield ground ball to keep the score at 7-0 going into the bottom of the 8th inning.

Dickinson almost hits back-to-back-to-back HR’s for LSU

Daniel Dickinson had already hit home runs in the fifth and sixth innings, and when he got another chance in the eighth, his deep ball to just left of centerfield was slowed by the wind and caught at the warning track. On the next at bat, Jake Brown hit another deep ball to centerfield that was slowed by the wind and caught at the warning track. Had the winds off the Mississippi been blowing a different direction, LSU’s lead would have been into the double digits. Instead, it remained a 7-0 lead for the Tigers headed into the ninth inning and Little Rock’s final three outs of the game.

FINAL: LSU 7, Little Rock 0

05/30/2025 10:17:18 PM

The five-plus hour weather delay didn’t slow down LSU starting pitcher Anthony Eyanson – who allowed no runs on 98 pitches after working into the eighth inning – nor did the Tigers struggle at the plate. LSU scored seven runs on 11 hits while holding Little Rock to no runs on five hits to secure the win in Game 1 of the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional. Dallas Baptist and Rhode Island needed the Little Rock vs. LSU game to end by 10:34 p.m. to be able to start late-Friday evening instead of Saturday, and the Tigers got the game’s final three outs when the clock hit 10:20 p.m. With the win, LSU advanced to Saturday’s winner’s bracket matchup against the winner of DBU and Rhode Island.
