Louisiana DB Dashawn McBryde signs with LSU

Nearly eight months after committing to LSU, 2924 Denham Springs (La.) defensive back Dashawn McBryde has signed with the Bayou Bengals.
McBryde visted often throughout the spring, making it to campus for the Tigers’ Spring Game before finally committing
The charge was led by names like head coach Brian Kelly, safeties coach Kerry Cooks, quarterbacks coach and area recruiter Joe Sloan, Director of Player Personnel Will Redmond and Director of Player Development Jordan Arcement.
“(Kelly) was just saying how he wants me to come to LSU. I like how he goes about his business and how he handles everything as a coach,” McBryde said before he committed. “Coach Cooks is a very intelligent man in his gameplan, which is something I like. Sloan is a good man to talk to. He’s also a very good coach as well.”
The Tigers beat out Tennessee and Ole Miss, two SEC teams that pushed hard for his commitment early in 2023.

LSU gets a bonafide playmaker
According to the On3 Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies, he’s the No. 69 overall prospect in the nation and No. 4 safety nationally. McBryde’s stock took off over the summer and throughout his senior season as a long safety with tremendous upside for LSU.
“Having LSU look at me since the fall really ingrained in my mind that they wanted me and my relationships with the coaching staff are amazing,” McBryde told On3 in April. “The visits to LSU really brought to life what all the hype was about. The many legends leaving and still returning to LSU are just amazing to see because you can really see how much LSU has done for them and how much they love it there.”
“You know playing for LSU is just a blessing for my family,” the safety continued. “We only live about 30 minutes from Tiger Stadium, so it won’t be much of an effort for them to get them down to watch me on Saturdays. That played a big role in my decision because I know come from a big LSU family.”
McBryde joins a safety room that is looking for more playmakers and with his skillset is someone LSU fans hope can come in and immediately make an impact on a defense that struggled in 2023. McBryde continuously set records at Denham Springs and now looks to do the same in Baton Rouge at LSU.
