LSU adds another high-major game with ACC/SEC Challenge
The ACC/SEC Challenge matchups are set for the 2025 non-conference season, per reports from Jon Rothstein on Wednesday. LSU’s non-conference schedule continues to come together and this time the Tigers will be facing Boston College on the road. Dates and times for the challenge have not been released yet.
LSU already is set to play SMU, Texas Tech, and Drake as three high-level non-conference games and now adds another high-major program, albeit Boston College is not on the same level as the aforementioned programs.
The Eagles come off of a 12-19 season while winning just four games in ACC play last year to finish second to last in an 18-team conference. In 2024, BC was at least respectable in the ACC, going 8-12 in conference play, but the Eagles have not been .500 or better in conference play since 2011, often finishing in the bottom three.
Barring a significant turnaround, this will not be a Quad 1 or Quad 2 game for the Tigers as Boston College ended last year 202 in the NET.

It’s certainly not an exciting matchup, but the ACC as a whole as struggled to keep up in recent years. According to Kenpom’s conference ratings, the ACC has not been higher than the No. 5 best conference since 2020. Last year, the conference was No. 5, but significantly behind the Big East who was No. 4 and closer to the Mountain West at No. 6
Regardless, it’s another high-major opponent for Matt McMahon’s team as they look to have the best season of his tenure in 2025-26. With a completely new roster, outside of two returners, the Tigers have pressed the reset button but now have invested in the talent through the transfer portal to become competitive in the ultra-talented SEC. The conference schedule will be brutal once again and with a respectable non-conference slate, there will be more than enough opportunities for LSU to get big-time victories this year.
