LSU Baseball wraps regular season No. 1 atop national polls

LSU heads to the postseason as the country’s No. 1 team according to the three main college baseball polls after winning their fourth SEC series of their last five weekends.

The Tigers (42-13, 19-11) rebounded from a tough Thursday to take Friday and Saturday games from South Carolina (28-28, 6-24) and maintain their position top the Baseball America, D1 Baseball and USA Today Coaches polls for the second straight week.

Coach Jay Johnson’s squad heads to Hoover, Ala., as the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament and a double-bye in the bracket before returning to action Friday in the quarterfinals.

The SEC accounts for six top-10 teams and 10 top-25 teams in all three sets of rankings, including four of Baseball America’s top five.

D1 Baseball’s latest projections for the NCAA Tournament bracket predict LSU as the No. 7 national seed, hosting a Baton Rouge Regional that includes Arizona, Miami and Miami (Ohio).
