LSU signs Georgia OL Paul Mubenga in 2023 class

The Tigers picked up a signature from one of the more intriguing prospects in this class in offensive lineman Paul Mubenga. The Buford (GA) prospect committed to the Tigers on July 14, but it wasn’t a simple decision.
Mubenga had plenty of suitors, but the primary competition for LSU’s offensive line coach Brad Davis was Michigan. Thankfully for the Tigers, after a string of visits to Texas A&M, Michigan, and LSU, the trip to Baton Rouge stood out.
“My official visit to LSU was critical for me,” he said after committing. “You have to experience things on the official visit and it gave me a great feeling at LSU. Me being on campus for 48 hours showed me a lot about LSU. I learned about their plans for the future and everything felt right when I was there. That visit played a major role in my decision.
“…Going into the official visit to LSU, I was probably leaning towards Michigan, but that visit changed my feelings. The more I talked with Coach Davis and being able to see the passion at LSU, I was sold.”
How Mubenga fits into the future
Brad Davis sold Mubenga on fitting in on what the Tigers are building on the offensive line. Now. with young players like Will Campbell, Emery Jones, Miles Frazier, and Cole Dellinger all thriving, Davis continues to prove he’s capable of developing players quickly.

“He sees me as a fit for them. He can use me at any position possible,” Paul Mubenga said after his official visit. “Just depends where the team needs me the most. As of now, he’s looking to play two freshmen my freshman year in college and he thinks I can be a part of that. (His style) is very similar to what I’ve been doing so far. I can get pushed from him and get better.
“All the guys he’s coached have definitely gotten better. You can tell they were impressed with what they were able to accomplish. They all love each other and they’re going for the same goal.”
He said all of that back in June. His commitment only strengthened as the year went on, even as teams like Auburn tried making late pushes to get him to flip.
Now, Mubenga has work to do. He was one of the more raw offensive line prospects in this class, but his 6-foot-4 frame allows Davis to mold him exactly how he wants. Mubenga can be as versatile and Davis wants him and will be an intriguing player to watch over the next four years.
