With the release of the updated On300 for the 2027 class, there’s a new 5-star in the state of Louisiana: Jesuit’s Zyron Forstall.

Forstall debuted in the national Top 10 as On3’s No. 3 overall prospect, regardless of position, and the No. 2 EDGE rusher in America.

The lone prospects ranked ahead of the Louisiana native: Georgia EDGE rusher LaDamion Guyton and Florida offensive tackle Mark Matthews.

Now, with On3 expanding the 2027 rankings for the class of rising juniors to a trio of 5-stars, Forstall has moved from a 4-star into the coveted spot as a 5-star recruit. He also moved from a 94 to a 98 rating with On3.

Meet Louisiana’s new 5-star – and top LSU target – Zyron Forstall

Here’s this week’s story from The Bengal Tiger’s Jerit Roser after an in-person visit with Forstall and Jesuit coach Ryan Manale.

Even in a different jersey from his typical No. 0, budding Jesuit star Zyron Forstall was easy to spot Friday moving around the defense and flying around the field.

The 6-foot-4, 240-pound athlete set up from one end of the line to the next, stood up and brought pressure from either edge and every gap in between and used late shifts to present further confusion just before the snap.

As Forstall continues to fill out his tall, long frame and showcase his quickness and explosiveness, he is developing into an increasingly versatile chess-piece on defense and looks more and more the part of one of the nation’s top 2027 prospects early in his career.

“Fun, you know, playing multiple positions, being able to move around, have that freedom,” he said. “It’s fun — you know, it’s free. It makes me feel like I’m able to fully give to the entire team what I can give.”

Forstall has gotten notably bigger and stronger during the past year and said that physical development remains one of his biggest focal points this offseason.

“I want to put on a little bit more weight, but keep that same speed,” he said. “That way, I’m able to bend the edge more, but also put the power on guys.”

Jesuit coach Ryan Manale called his rising junior standout one of the fastest players he’s coached in his four-plus years with the program and decade at De La Salle with “a get-off about as good as anybody we’ve seen.”

“The only competition we have (for Forstall’s speed) is one or two skill guys that can run with him,” he said. “We’re blessed to have him, but he’s got to remember where he’s at — and he’s doing that — and one day at a time and being the best version of himself, not only in the weight room, not only in the locker room, in the classroom and community. There’s a lot of things of growth for him and he’s working at that, and sky’s the limit for him.”

Forstall’s recruiting profile has exploded during his sophomore year with nearly two dozen offers and the nation’s No. 3 overall ranking in On3’s first On300 list for the 2027 class.

In February, he became one of Louisiana’s first seven prospects in the class to receive an offer from home-state LSU, with the Tigers joining a list that already included Ole Miss, Baylor, Florida State and Mississippi State and has since added USC, Texas, Alabama, Texas A&M, Auburn, Missouri and Vanderbilt.

“It’s been a little hectic — it’s a lot at times,” he admitted. “But I always go to God, pray to God, and go the people around me, my family, especially my dad guiding me, helping me make the right choices, like coming here to Jesuit, and that’s really what it is.

Forstall still has two years of high school remaining and seemingly a long way to go before an eventual college decision.

Even next month’s potential camp and visit plans are still a work in progress, he said, though he anticipates a trip to Los Angeles to be included.

“USC is one of them,” he said, wearing a pair of Trojans gloves after participating in a spring game in which one of the team’s coaches watched from the corner of the field. “But I haven’t really solidified anything else yet.”

Forstall is grateful for the supporting cast around him, including his family, coaches and old players such as 2026 defensive lineman Will Berry, who is also navigated a Division-I recruiting process.

And Manale said that village around the talented young prospect includes everyone at the Jesuit from the administration to the maintenance staff.

“Everybody is an ear for him, everybody’s watching, everybody’s pulling for him to develop, and we all have his back,” the coach said. “We’re all there for him, and he’s got a lot of resources at Jesuit High School, and he’s blessed to be there, and we’re blessed to have him.”
