As No. 5 LSU continues its tear through the non-conference season, senior guard Flau’Jae Johnson has found her footing on this new-look roster and is thriving early on. In six games, Johnson is playing just 22 minutes per contest, but averaging 17.3 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.5 steals, on 55.9 percent shooting from the field and 57.1 percent from deep.

The four-year starter for Kim Mulkey has lofty goals for her senior season, but with the WNBA Draft Lottery completed over the weekend, people have began looking ahead at the 2026 WNBA Draft, where Johnson is projected to be a top five pick.

Bleacher Report and ESPN both released their post-lottery WNBA Mock Drafts and both had Johnson going No. 5 to the Chicago Sky, potentially reuniting her with another LSU great in Angel Reese.

Here are the first five projected picks from Bleacher Report.

1. Dallas Wings: Azzi Fudd, SG, UConn

2. Minnesota Lynx: Lauren Betts, C, UCLA

3. Seattle Storm: Olivia Miles, PG, TCU

4. Washington Mystics: Awa Fam, C, Spain

5. Chicago Sky: Flau’jae Johnson, SG, LSU

“The guard-heavy Tigers will showcase Johnson’s ability to run the court this season. She is averaging 17.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG and 3.7 APG for No. 5 LSU. The Tigers’ soft nonconference schedule hasn’t challenged them, but Johnson already has proven herself in three years of SEC play.” – ESPN

Johnson embraces leadership in final year at LSU

Johnson is a unique talent who has played a huge role in the success of LSU under Mulkey, but in her final year, being a leader for this team and program is a new task she’s aiming to embrace.

“She’s always been reluctant to be a leader of teammates because she wants them to like her,” Mulkey said last month during the SEC basketball media day. “She never felt comfortable doing it because she’s always had that great older player in the locker room.

“This is it. You are that older player. You’re the senior. You’ve been here. You know the ropes. So go lead your basketball team.”

Mulkey has bestowed that pressure upon her and as the season is just a few weeks underway, Johnson has responded and hopes she can continue to elevate her teammates as the competition gets even more difficult.

“I want to lead when things are tough. And so just building my character in those moments,” Johnson said. “I feel like I’ve learned who I was when things didn’t suit me. I don’t want to be that person anymore, so I want to be a better leader. So I think just holding myself accountable because basketball comes with adversity, and once you face it, how are you mature enough to maneuver in that?”
