Ball-hawking 4-star CB Jontavius Wyman signs with Hurricanes: `It’s like a family'
When fans don’t hear a lot about a prospect once he commits to a school, that’s usually an encouraging sign. This was the case for Jonesboro (Ga.) cornerback Jontavius Wyman, whose recruitment did not include any additional twists and turns after he flipped his commitment from Georgia to Miami in April.
He locked his recruitment down in the months leading up to Wyman signing with the Hurricanes on Wednesday.
“I’m still locked in with them 100%,” Wyman told CaneSport in September. “I’m not flipping anywhere. I’m just ready to get down there. …It’s just the way it is down there. It’s like a family. Everybody cares about each other. I can clearly see that they care about me and I think they can set me up to get drafted some day or help me in the real world, like help me become a better man and education-wise. I can go down there and succeed in the things I want to do. So that part too.”
“They’re reaching out every single day, they’re talking to me,” Wyman said. “Their coaches text me every single day. That’s the way it is down there. It’s like a family. Everybody cares about each other. I can clearly see that they care about me and I think they can set me up to go get drafted some day.”
A talented wideout as well, Wyman could have easily been a Power-Four caliber receiver at the collegiate level. In his senior season, he totaled 869 yards and 10 touchdowns on 48 catches, adding 52 tackles, three interceptions and three pass breakups. Wyman is a natural outside cornerback with the athleticism and ball skills to be a true ballhawk in the secondary.

Wyman is the high school teammate of fellow Miami defensive back commit, four-star safety Cortez Redding.
“So both of them, I think they picked up where they left off and they’re taking it to another level,” Jonesboro head coach DeTimothy Floyd said about the two defenders. “Jontavius is being Jontavius in all three aspects of the game — offense, defense and special teams and Cortez is leading out on special teams and defensively. He’s kind of taking control of the defense now, like having another coach out there on the field. It’s been exciting watching those two grow especially from last season to this season.”
Wyman is ranked by Rivals as a four-star prospect and the 28th-best cornerback and No. 230 overall player in the 2026 class.
CaneSport’s Take
Wyman’s name has gone under the radar, but we think he could make some very loud plays on Miami’s secondary in the not-so-distant future. He’s a smooth-moving cover corner who just needs more reps. He also plays on Jonesboro’s basketball team, which we like.
