Michigan State to play UCLA and at USC in 2025; Ohio State drops off in '25

East Lansing, Mich. – Michigan State won’t wait long to take the field against USC and UCLA in Big Ten play. The conference and university announced on Thursday that the Spartans will play at USC in 2025 and play host to UCLA in 2025, the second year that each of the California teams will play in the Big Ten.
Ohio State will be dropping off of the Spartans’ schedule in 2025. It will mark the first time since 2010 that the Spartans and Buckeyes will not meet in the regular season.
The Big Ten’s schedule is now complete for the 2024 and ’25 seasons in terms of matchups. Dates for the games will be released later. New schedules will be created for 2026 and beyond, in the near future.
The Spartans’ home games in 2024 will be Illinois, Indiana, Ohio State, Purdue and Rutgers.
Michigan State’s road Big Ten games in 2024 will be at Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska and Penn State.

The Spartans’ previously-announced nonconference games will be against Florida Atlantic (Aug. 31), Louisiana (Sept. 14) and at Boston College (Sept. 21).
In 2025, the Spartans will play home games against Michigan, Northwestern, Penn State and UCLA.
In 2025, the Spartans will play road games against Indiana, Iowa, Minnesota, USC and Wisconsin.
The trip to USC in 2025 for a Big Ten game marks the biggest traditional change for the Spartans.
Michigan State’s previously-announced nonconference games in 2025 will be played against Western Michigan (Aug. 30), Youngstown State (Sept. 6) and Boston College (Sept. 20).
Each Big Ten team has three opponents that it will play twice during this cycle. The Spartans’ “two-play” opponents are Michigan, Indiana and Penn State.
According to The Athletic, Michigan State vs. Michigan is one of 11 protected rivalry games.
