Michigan Wolverines football fans know the name Donaven McCulley. The Indiana transfer was a quarterback and started against the Maize and Blue in 2021, before transitioning to wide receiver and having an impact for the Hoosiers over the last two seasons, even throwing a touchdown on a trick play against U-M this fall.

McCulley is now in the NCAA transfer portal, having entered Nov. 28, and the Wolverines have offered him a scholarship. The 6-5, 200-pounder has also been offered by Kentucky, where he’ll visit this coming weekend, Penn State, South Carolina, NC State, USF, Mississippi State and others, per his X page.

McCulley has one year of eligibility remaining, after playing three seasons in Bloomington. Indiana fired head coach Tom Allen at the conclusion of its 3-9 season that included a 1-8 mark in the Big Ten. IU hired a new head coach in Curt Cignetti, who comes from a successful run at James Madison. Michigan added two Indiana transfers last offseason in quarterback Jack Tuttle and tight end AJ Barner.

McCulley is ranked as the No. 43 overall player and eighth-best wide receiver in the transfer portal, according to On3.

McCulley caught 38 passes for 644 yards and 6 touchdowns this season, leading Indiana in all three categories. He hauled in 16 grabs for 169 yards and a score the prior season.

As a quarterback in 2021, McCulley completed 35 of 82 passes for 475 yards and 2 touchdowns with 2 interceptions. He played in seven games.

An Indianapolis (Ind.) Lawrence North product, McCulley was a four-star recruit and the nation’s No. 201 overall player in the 2021 class. Michigan did not offer McCulley as a prep prospect, but he did receive numerous other Power Five opportunities.
