Michigan was not involved in the basketball version of the NCAA Tournament this year, but the hockey team is and hopes to make another trip to the Frozen Four. The next step in that chapter occurs Sunday in a Big Ten showdown with Penn State.

The Nittany Lions and Wolverines will meet at 6:30 p.m. Sunday from the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania for the right to head to the Frozen Four in Tampa on April 6-8. The winner will play either Quinnipiac or Ohio State. Michigan is 3-1 in contests against Penn State this season.

Michigan pounded Colgate by a score of 11-1 on Friday night. The score was 1-0 after one period, and then all hell broke loose in favor of the Wolverines.

“We kind of figured it out (in the second) and got momentum, and once we got a couple more the floodgates opened,” senior forward Nick Granowicz said, via The Michigan Daily. “We kind of just shut them down and it seemed like they were disinterested in the game at that point because it was getting out of reach. That was our plan too, just to make them quit.”

“Our routine stayed the same by design all season and into this week just to keep some consistency,” Michigan coach Brandon Naurato said.

Sunday night’s game will be broadcast on ESPN2.

Michigan quote of the day

“Everything’s settled in. It’s great being able to take a couple days, relax. The NCAA season is a grind. Everybody’s so sore by the end of the season. Something’s hurting on your body. Being able to take a couple days and just not do anything and just sleep in until like 1 or 2 p.m. on some days is great.

“Just trying to enjoy the relaxation as much as I can, because in a little bit you’ve got to put your head back in the dirt and start grinding again.”
