Albert Reese and Nic Mitchell grab SEC honors after Arizona State win

One of Mississippi State’s biggest wins in several seasons is netting some strong returns.
On Monday, the SEC released its Players of the Week and two players would grab honors for the Bulldogs. The conference selected RT Albert Reese as the Co-Offensive Lineman of the Week and LB Nic Mitchell as the Co-Defensive Player of the Week after the 24-20 triumph over Arizona State last Saturday.
Reese shares his award with Missouri’s Dominick Giudice and Mitchell shared his with Vanderbilt’s Nick Rinaldi.
Reese was serving as the starting right tackle on Saturday and was the Bulldogs’ top graded offensive lineman according to Pro Football Focus. That publication had Reese on its National Team of the Week after he recorded a 80.4 blocking rate with a 82.3 pass blocking grade and 77.2 run block.
It was a strong week for Reese after he started at left tackle in the Southern Miss win and then moved to right tackle in the second half after Blake Steen went down with an injury. Steen is expected to be out for an extended amount of time so Reese looks to be the man for the spot for the foreseeable future.

Mitchell had one of his best games as a Bulldog in the win as he helped spearhead a defense that held the Sun Devils under 100 yards in the first half. The fifth-year senior finished tied for the team lead with nine tackles.
The biggest play for Mitchell came late in the fourth quarter when he stopped an ASU runner short of the goal line on 3rd and Goal and forced a field goal. That stop proved to be vital in the Bulldogs getting the win as they came through with a touchdown on the ensuing drive.
The honors now mark three SEC Players of the Week for the Bulldogs in the first two weeks of the season. Senior defensive lineman Will Whitson earned SEC Co-Defensive Lineman of the Week after the win over Southern Miss in week one.
