Former top 100 Auburn DL Darron Reed to transfer to Mississippi State
David Turner added more depth to his defensive line group on Thursday with the addition of Auburn defensive lineman Darron Reed.
The 6’4, 285-pound Reed committed to State over interest from Colorado and others. Reed visited Starkville last weekend and made the call for the Bulldogs on Thursday. Reed will have three years of eligibility remaining.
A Columbus, Ga., native, Reed redshirted his first year with the Tigers but didn’t record any stats in 2024. Reed played in two games this season against Alabama A&M and Louisiana Monroe. In 2023, Reed played in just one game but also had no stats.
Though he has no collegiate production to draw from at this point, Reed was one of the top defensive linemen in the country coming out of high school. On3 had Reed as the No. 64 player in the country for the 2023 class and he was ranked No. 9 on the defensive line and the No. 5 player in the state of Georgia.

Before coach Hugh Freeze was even hired, the Tigers were able to land Reed. He was previously committed to LSU but Auburn flipped him prior to signing day. High school offers included Clemson, Ohio State, Miami, Florida State, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Colorado and others along with the verbals from LSU and AU.
Reed played his high school ball for Carver in Georgia and had 33 tackles with 8.0 sacks as a senior on his way to All-Region honors. He joins a transfer class that is beginning to shape up for Jeff Lebby as the Bulldogs have now landed 17 players out of the portal.
Nine of those additions have been on the defensive side of the ball as the Bulldogs try to repair the worst defense in school history. State has grabbed six players for the defensive line and more help appears to be on the way.
