Due to a quick start on the field this season, Mississippi State is starting to gain more momentum on the recruiting trail. On Monday morning that momentum carried to the Class of 2027 with the commitment of cornerback prospect Brandon Allen.

The Westlake (Ga.) High School standout announced his Mississippi State commitment on his twitter page and becomes the second commitment in the class, joining Petal High School punter Gunnar Gillentine

“It’s just the coaching staff,” mentioned Allen. “They always call you and check up on you. They have a good relationship with my mom, my dad and my whole family. That’s always a big thing because family is big for me.”

This past weekend, Allen and his family were back in Starkville for Mississippi State’s SEC opener against Tennessee. And it didn’t take long for the environment at Davis Wade Stadium to catch his attention.

“Mississippi State visit was great,” Allen recalled. “What stands out is as soon as you walk in the stadium, it’s the atmosphere and the student section is right there with all the cowbells. That really caught my attention as soon as I walked into the stadium. Good people there and everything is good.”

Allen also holds Power 4 offers from Michigan State, Arkansas, Baylor and Pittsburgh among others. While in Starkville on Saturday, he got to spend more time with State’s staff to let them know of his future intentions to join the class.

“I talked to Coach (Jeff) Lebby and Coach (Corey) Bell,” added the 6-foot-2 and 175-pound Allen. “Coach Bell always calls me so we were just checking up. Coach Lebby was just telling me about the program and how he would love to have me there and stuff like that.”

And what Allen saw on the field from the Bulldogs also made an impression on him. He also believes the program is headed for big things under Lebby’s direction.

“I think they played a good game,” Allen explained. “It was a tough loss in overtime but I think they played an amazing game. Coach Lebby is going to have a good season, especially with the way their record is right now. People talk about the SEC and only mention Georgia and Alabama. But Mississippi State is a great school and Coach Lebby is doing great in his second season.”

So far this season, Allen and his Westlake teammates are 3-3 overall and are nearing the start of region play. Allen has totaled 17 tackles with two tackles for loss and three PBUs.

“My season is going good so far,” noted Allen. “I’ve been making a big change by stepping up as a leader. I’ve been making a lot of plays, too. I’m a long corner and I can run. I have good ball skills and can catch anything around me.”
