2026 quarterback Brodie McWhorter first official signee for Mississippi State
It should be no surprise that Rivals three-star quarterback Brodie McWhorter was the first official 2026 signee for Mississippi State on Wednesday. Since making his Bulldog decision on May 1st, the Cass (Ga.) High School product has been the vocal leader of the class.
After making that decision, McWhorter quickly went to work trying to recruit others in the class and remained solid throughout the entire process. McWhorter is rated as the nation’s No. 65 quarterback and the state’s No. 116 prospect by Rivals.
“When I committed to Coach (Jeff) Lebby, I heard all he had to say to me,” McWhorter recalled. “I just trusted him and believed in the staff to do whatever they could to turn the program around. When you look at the history of his offense, when I committed I knew it would take time. But everyone is starting to see the shift and everyone is seeing how they are moving forward. The execution will only keep getting better and keep going up.”
McWhorter is also set to graduate from Cass High School later this month. Then next month he will enroll at Mississippi State and start getting adjusted to college life in the SEC.
“The first thing on my to-do list is to get around the guys and acclimate and be the biggest help I can be,” the 6-foot-1 and 205-pound McWhorter shared. “I know there is going to be some of competition in the quarterback room but I am not scared of it. I just want to go in and compete and try to help Mississippi State football be better.”
Naturally, McWhorter realizes there will be bumps in the road as a true freshman in the 2026 season. But he is eager to learn from the quarterbacks currently on campus and use those lessons to his benefit.
“Being a freshman, there’s going to be times where I will not be ready,” added McWhorter, who passed for 2,167 yards with 27 touchdowns and just four interceptions this season. “But that’s the best part of it. I just want sit in there and learn. Kamario (Taylor) is a baller, Luke (Kromenhoek) is a baller. So when Blake Shapen leaves it will still be a great room. I just want to help do whatever I can to help us get to another level.”

Thus far, McWhorter has already gotten a head start on Lebby’s offensive system and offensive playbook. Then in a few more weeks, he will add more knowledge of the system and start getting prepared for his first collegiate spring practice sessions.
“I’ve looked at a few things with the playbook,” McWhorter explained. “I haven’t overloaded much because Coach Lebby told me to just focus on my senior season and coming in January, I would be just fine. But I’ve looked here and there at things and I am ready to get going.”
While numerous recruits had to experience chaos down the homestretch of recruiting, that was obviously not the case with McWhorter. Once he started fielding Division 1 offers and took in official visits, he stuck with his plan and had a relaxing process over the past few months.
“It’s been very relaxing,” mentioned McWhorter. “My whole plan was to commit before my senior season so I could enjoy my senior season and help recruit the best class we can get at Mississippi State. There’s been schools that reach out and try to pull me away. But I shut down my recruitment a long time ago and I trust what Coach Lebby is doing. I wanted to be part of that.”
