Before arriving on his Mississippi State official visit on Friday, 2026 offensive lineman Charles Humphrey had a good idea how the weekend would end. On Sunday, the On3 three-star prospect announced his commitment to the Bulldogs.

The Bearden (Tenn.) High School standout has been a long-time Mississippi Staet lean dating back to last summer when he was offered by the Bulldogs. Humphrey is rated as the nation’s No. 54 offensive tackle and the state’s No. 15 prospect by On3 rankings.

“I just felt like it was time,” Humphrey explained. “It was coming down to my top two and I just felt like Mississippi State was the one.”

Humphrey also held Power 4 offers from Oregon, Ole Miss, Virginia Tech and Cincinnati. Humphrey officially visited Virginia Tech last weekend but it was the coaching background of State’s staff that sealed the deal.

“It really was the experience the coaching staff have at my position,” added the 6-foot-7 and 275-pound Humphrey. “Coach (Jeff) Lebby was an offensive lineman and Coach (Phil) Loadholt played in the NFL for eight years as an offensive lineman. I believe they can help me produce and get me to where I need to be.”

No stranger to Starkville, Humphrey felt right at home again this weekend. He has taken in several trips to campus this year and said he has the same feeling every time.

“I’ve been there so many times before and it always feels like home,” mentioned Humphrey. “Going back to last summer, it felt like that when I first started going there. Coach Lebby makes you feel part of the family as soon as you step on campus.”

Regarding the weekend visit, one of Humphrey’s highlights was being around his future teammates on the offensive line. He also said his time around the coaches was another thing that stood out over the weekend.

“My favorite part was probably the dinner and spending time with the coaching staff and players,” remarked Humphrey. “I was with Jimothy Lewis and Blake Steen a lot. It was good and they were cool. They were telling me how everyone has a bond there and you are not a number there but a name.”

Looking ahead, Humphrey is working to join those teammates sooner than later. He is looking at being an early high school graduate in order to enroll at Mississippi State in January.

“My plan is to graduate early,” Humphrey noted. “It will prepare me early and help me get an early start with my college career. I can get out of the gates on a good foot by getting there early.”
