Mississippi State signee Cooper Crosby eager for early enrollment
2026 Mississippi State signee Cooper Crosby couldn’t have written a better script for his senior season if he tried. And the ending was what Crosby compared to a movie.
The Rivals three-star running back and his Gulfport High School teammates knocked off Tupelo, 21-20, in the Class 7A state championship game. And they did so on a Hail Mary on the final play of the game. Crosby is rated as the nation’s No. 60 running back and the state’s No. 32 prospect by Rivals.
“I have no words,” explained the 5-foot-11 and 210-pound Crosby. “To win on a Hail Mary in the state championship game, that’s something you see in a movie.”
Crosby was a major part of that championship season for Gulfport, too. On the season, Crosby rushed for 1,794 yards with 34 touchdowns and also had 46 catches for 654 yards and seven touchdowns.
“Just staying consistent,” Crosby remarked. “Obviously, at the beginning of the season we had a rough patch and started the season 0-2, which is never good. But just staying consistent and we put the work in. We did not coward down to the situation we were in and we just prospered and we worked with what we had.”
Last weekend in Hattiesburg, Crosby conclude his prep career with an appearance in the Miss.-Ala. All-Star game. He was in that event with several other Mississippi State signees, including a fellow running back in Mississippi State’s class.
“It as a good experience,” Crosby recalled. “I’ve been taking to JJ (State signee Jaeden Hill) a lot and I really tried to get close with all of the Mississippi State signees.”

Naturally, Crosby received his share of congrats from fans and family members. That also included the Mississippi State staff, particularly running backs coach Anthony Tucker.
“I heard from Coach Tucker after the state championship game,” Crosby mentioned. “He was congratulating me and talking about the game. They are just excited for me to get there and to get started.”
With that chapter of his gridiron career finished, Crosby now turns his attention to the next level. In just a few short weeks, Crosby will enroll at Mississippi State to begin classes and offseason workouts with his new teammates.
“Very excited and I can’t wait to get there,” noted Crosby. “That’s all I’ve been thinking about since the state championship was over with. I am glad I got the chance to be in the Miss.-Ala. All-Star game so I could get closer with JJ and all those guys. Talking to JJ, me and him will probably end up rooming together at Mississippi State. So it’s going to be exciting.”
