Ferzell Shepard sounds off on Mississippi State commitment
On Saturday night, Mississippi State landed a Louisiana wide receiver commitment in Davion Jackson and he had a fellow pass catcher from The Boot follow on Sunday evening.
Scotlandville Magnet ATH Ferzell Shepard committed to the Bulldogs after his official visit to Starkville this weekend. The Baton Rouge native selected State over Texas Tech, Arkansas and several other offers.
“They’re a great school. I fit perfectly in their scheme. The people love me, too, and I can call this home,” Shepard said. “I just met (Jackson) this weekend and I know that we’re going to be good together. We’re excited.”
It was a weekend of fun for Shepard and his family as they had a chance to see the lay of the land at MSU. Before his commitment, Shepard took part in a scavenger hunt with the other prospects that ended with a good time inside Davis Wade Stadium.
On Saturday, Shepard said his favorite activity was getting a chance to go to Jeff Lebby’s house, eat and mingle with everyone. His player host was Bulldog transfer Kevin Coleman who told him how much love he’s already gotten in Starkville. Those comments were backed up when he witnessed the weekend for himself.

“It was awesome and everything was smooth. The people love me here,” Shepard said. “Hanging out with the coaches and the meetings that we had were the best part of it for me. I spent a lot of time with (Offensive Graduate Assistant Benton Duby) and he was a great guy.
“Coach Lebby is a real straight-up guy who is going to tell it like it is. He’s cool people.”
Shepard is being recruited by the Bulldogs as a wide receiver, but he truly does live up to the athlete label by the recruiting networks. A three-star by the On3 Industry Rankings, Ferzell is the No. 567 player nationally, the No. 26 ATH in the country and the state of Louisiana’s No. 20 player.
He was Louisiana’s Class 5A state champion in the triple jump a year ago and said the Bulldog staff loves his ability to jump as well as the speed that he possesses.
Shepard is the 15th commitment of the 2025 class for the Bulldogs and the 12th in the last two weekends. He is the third announced commitment from this weekend.
