It’s baseball season yet again.

The Major League Baseball season is underway and several former Mississippi State players are doing their thing on baseball’s biggest stage. That includes former State standout Jake Mangum who made his debut with Tampa Bay this year and he has made a major impact.

The State legend is one of nine former Bulldogs that are active in the league with several more likely in and out this year. A few players made moves in the offseason like Nathaniel Lowe going to Washington and Adam Frazier making his return to the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Jordan Westburg is back looking to build on his breakthrough season with the Baltimore Orioles while Brent Rooker is hoping to continue his great run with Oakland. Brandon Woodruff is back after shoulder surgery and  JP France is working back recovering from an injury last season.

Over the last week, Kendall Graveman returned to the mound after a month away and Woodruff’s second start netted 10 strikeouts in 4.1 frames and he hit a milestone with 800 strikeouts in his career. Rooker had hits in all five of his games including three doubles and two home runs to get to 100 hits on the year. He followed that up by competing in the Home Run Derby and is taking part in his second All-Star Game on Tuesday.

Mangum had eight hits in his six games with three multi-hit performances.
