Last fall saw Cleveland Central High School post a 12-1 mark and advanced to the 3rd round of the Class 5A playoffs before falling to eventual state champion West Point, 14-7.

Helping lead that charge on offense was 2027 receiver prospect Javarious Griffin. This season Griffin will return to his duties at receiver and will also play other spots on the field.

“We had a decent season last year,” the 6-foot and 175-pound Griffin recalled. “But I could’ve done better and I was injured in one game. Now I’ve been working on my route running and tracking down the ball. I will be at safety and sometimes quarterback this year, too.”

At the next level, Griffin has gotten off to a good start on the recruiting scene. He already holds a trio of SEC offers, as well.

“So far I have offers from Mississippi State, Houston, Ole Miss, Old Dominion, Jackson State, Vanderbilt, Tulane and Toledo,” remarked Griffin. “I feel blessed to be in this situation. I didn’t expect it at all and it’s a blessing.”

During the spring and summer months, Griffin was able to venture out and take in a few unofficial visits. He also has several schools he wants to see play in person this season.

“This year I have visited Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Jackson State,” explained Griffin. “This season I am going back to Mississippi State and try to catch games at Ole Miss, Vanderbilt, Florida State and Miami.”

Mississippi State was Griffin’s first SEC offer and he collected his Bulldog offer early in the spring period. Over the past few months Griffin has been able to build a good connection with receivers coach Chad Bumphis.

“I love Mississippi State and it feels like home there,” Griffin noted. “Coach Bump is my dog and he is like family to me now. He likes my explosiveness at receiver.”

Still waiting to enter his junior season, Griffin is not in a rush to make any sudden moves on the recruiting trail. For now, he wants to keep building relationships with these programs.

“It is probably too early for favorites,” mentioned Griffin. “Right now I am just taking it as it comes. I am just focused on building relationships with these coaches.”
