In late June, we saw Mississippi State add several new members to the Class of 2026 and starting that trend was On3 three-star tight end Luke Hutchinson.

Hutchinson announced that decision two Fridays ago and did so not long after his Bulldog official visit. Hutchinson is rated as the nation’s No. 93 tight end and the state’s No. 50 prospect by On3 composite rankings.

“It was about the middle of the week is when I knew,” Hutchinson recalled. “It was a couple of days after my official visit there. I knew it would be Mississippi State and then I told the coaches the night before I announced.”

As noted often, Hutchinson and his family have a long-time relationship with State tight ends coach Jon Cooper. Hutchinson’s father – Steve – was a former NFL offensive lineman that played with Cooper in the NFL. So naturally, Cooper was excited when Hutchinson announced his news.

“Coach Cooper was pumped,” added the 6-foot-3.5 and 235-pound Hutchinson. “We were equally pumped and excited, and my family was excited. I got to call the rest of the coaches the next day and everyone had good vibes.”

Hutchinson spent the past two seasons at Montgomery (Tenn.) Bell Academy before transferring to Avon Old Farms in Connecticut for post-graduate school. Hutchinson also holds other Power 4 offers from Kentucky, Louisville, Texas A&M, Pittsburgh, Virginia and Nebraska, and also officially visited Virginia earlier this month.

“I went to Virginia and Mississippi State for visits,” Hutchinson remarked. “After those visits, I was shown the most love at Mississippi State and I felt more at home there. Once you have those two things, nothing else really matter and it was a no-brainer from there.”

Since Hutchinson made his decision, the Bulldogs added two more tight ends to the class with Zayion Cotton and Adam Land. That will make for a competitive room in the future and that has Hutchinson eager to get started.

“I am excited and we have a great group,” Hutchinson noted. “I am excited to compete and it will be a great time. I look forward to meeting them and creating that bond. It should be fun.”

Hutchinson already graduated high school at Montgomery Bell Academy and has one semester left at Avon Old Farms before heading to Mississippi State in January.

“I’ve already graduated high school,” explained Hutchinson. “But I still have my post-graduate school at Avon Old Farms. It is just for a semester and I will enroll at Mississippi State in January. It will be good for me to be there in the spring so I can go ahead and get used to everything.”
