2026 juco receiver Matt Mayfield commits to Mississippi State

While training camp opens at Mississippi State on Thursday, the Bulldogs are still active in the Class of 2026. On Tuesday evening a familiar name committed to Mississippi State in 2-26 juco receiver Matt Mayfield.
Mayfield announced his decision on his Twitter page and becomes the 27th commitment in the class. He is also the first juco commitment of the class, as well.
“My first thought was I always wanted to go to Mississippi State since high school,” noted Mayfield. “I got off track a little bit but I’m back now. I love the coaching staff. They stuck with me through the whole process. So it made it really easy to make my decision.”
Mayfield played his prep career at Beau Chene (La.) High School but missed his entire senior season due to transfer rules. The 6-foot-2 and 195-pound Mayfield was a former Mississippi State commitment in the Class of 2024 but did not officially sign with the Bulldogs in that cycle. But as he noted, the Bulldogs stayed on him, particularly receivers coach Chad Bumphis.

“I’m really excited to play for Coach Bump,” added Mayfield. “He understood what I was trying to do and that I needed to get there. We finally made it happen and I can’t wait to be part of the team next year.”
Expected to be a December graduate, Mayfield is entering his sophomore season at Copiah-Lincoln Community College. Last year as a freshman Mayfield totaled 13 catches for 274 yards and one touchdown.
With his decision, Mayfield becomes the fourth receiver commitment in State’s Class of 2026. He joins Jayden Cration, Camden Capehart and Zion Crumpton as Crumpton and Cration both committed to State last month.
