Mississippi State has taken measures to keep Director of Athletics Zac Selmon in Starkville for the long term.

Earlier this year, Selmon and MSU finalized a deal that extended him through 2029, a one-year addition to a contract that has him at the max years allowable by state law. The news was first reported by 247Sports on Wednesday, but the extension was reportedly signed back in February on 2025.

In addition to deal being extended to four years, Selmon received a pay raise of $25,000 to get him to a yearly salary of $1.25 million and it will increase by $25,000 each following year that it is renewed.  Also, a milestone incentive is in place for a $100,000 bonus each season.

The news comes on the heels of Selmon gaining momentum within the athletic department. Selmon announced a 10-year Master Plan in January for the campus’ athletic facilities that included renovations to Davis Wade Stadium and Dudy Noble Field and a new Indoor Practice Facility at the Leo Seal Jr. football practice facility.

Selmon followed that up with the announcement of new LED lights inside DWS in February and, just last week, announced the official plans to go through with the IPF project and practice facility upgrades beginning in 2027.

Over the course of the last year, Selmon and his staff have had to navigate the start of revenue sharing on the collegiate level and he’s raised over $15 million in major gifts for that. Selmon also just secured the school’s largest athletic gift in history with an undisclosed amount coming from the Billy Howard Sr. family for the IPF. Another $1 million donation was delivered on Wednesday for the project.

As far as coaching hires, Selmon has already had to make one major hire in the form of football coach Jeff Lebby. The former Oklahoma and Ole Miss offensive coordinator had a rough first season with a 2-10 finish, but has hopes of rectifying that in 2025. Another big hire is on the clock for Selmon as he has to find the next head man to lead his Diamond Dawg baseball program after firing head coach Chris Lemonis last month.

The Wake Forest alum is just in his second year as an AD. State hired Selmon in January of 2023 after he worked a major role inside the North Carolina and Oklahoma athletic department. He has garnered interest from several jobs during his time, but State now hopes to have him in place for years to come.
