Diamond Dawg pitcher Nate Dohm hears third round call to Mets in MLB Draft
A third Mississippi State player is off the board in the MLB Draft as RHP Nate Dohm heard his name called on Monday afternoon.
Dohm was taken early on Monday with the 82nd overall pick to the New York Mets with a third round selection.
After starting his career with Ball State, Dohm became a major factor for the Bulldogs on the mound right away. He transferred to Starkville in 2023 and was State’s most trustworthy hurler in a season of struggles for Bulldog pitchers.
Dohm was 6-4 with 17 appearances and two starts while garnering two saves for State. He had a 4.07 ERA in 41.0 IP, gave up 28 H, 19 ER, 12 walks and 49 K.
Despite being mostly a reliever as a sophomore, Dohm emerged as a starter for State in 2024. The hard-throwing right hander started on Friday nights throughout non-conference play and was dominant until encountering an arm injury in the final non-con weekend series.

After missing most of the SEC slate, Dohm returned in the final week of the season and would pitch in two ball games late in the year. He finished the season 4-0 in eight appearances with six starts and a 1.23 ERA. Dohm threw 29.1 innings, gave up just four earned runs and four walks and he struck out 37 batters.
Dohm continues a long line of Bulldogs that have been drafted by the Mets organization and is the 13th such player to hear his name called by that squad. Most recently, an uptick has come of Bulldogs to the Big Apple with seven in the last seven years. Dohm joins Jake Mangum (2018 and ’19), Cole Gordon (’19), JT Ginn (2020), Rowdey Jordan (2021) and Kellum Clark (2023).
Now through three rounds, MSU had all three of its starting pitchers in its Opening Weekend drafted within the first 100 picks of the draft. Jurrangelo Cijntje was taken in the first round, 15th overall by the Seattle Mariners and Khal Stephen was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the third round, 59th overall.
