Mississippi State added more depth to the catcher position out of the transfer portal on Thursday morning.

George Mason underclassman Andrew Raymond announced his intentions to transfer to State on X. It’s the second transfer portal catcher of the class as he joins Kevin Milewski from Seton Hall.

Raymond comes to Starkville after a solid first year on campus with George Mason. He batted .287 as he started 50 of the 61 games played. He had 50 hits, 10 doubles, five home runs and 33 RBI while walking 30 times and striking out 26. He came to George Mason after playing ball for Middletown High School in Maryland.

At the backstop, Raymond had a .975 fielding percentage as he threw out four base stealers. Raymond had four passed balls and five errors.

The position appears to be set now heading into the offseason of the 2026 season. With Milewski emerging as the favorite for the starting catcher spot, Brian O’Connor’s first team also has the return of Jackson Owen and there are two other potential catchers in sophomore Virginia transfer Chone James and incoming freshman Peter Mershon. James and Mershon can also play other positions in the field.

Raymond is the 16th commitment of the transfer portal class for O’Connor. Nine of those are positional players with the other seven are pitchers.
