100 Day Bulldog Countdown: 54 Days - No. 54 OT Blake Steen

Year two of the Jeff Lebby era has arrived and the Mississippi State coach is back to work.
After a disappointing first season, the coach and his staff are doing what they can to get things back on track in Starkville. The players on the field will be the difference for State this season if they are to make a return and we’re going to discuss every single one of them over the course of the next few months.
As we do every year, we’re counting down 100 days until State’s first game at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on August 30. Over this period of time, we’ll breakdown every scholarship player on the roster, look back at great moments in MSU history and even talk about legends that have come before the current Bulldogs.
Today, we look at a transfer lineman looking to make a big impact for the Bulldogs.
54 Days: No. 54, Junior OT Blake Steen
The spring was a chance for new offensive line coach Phil Loadholt to see what he had on the offensive front and he didn’t like what he saw.
Loadholt went out in the transfer portal and landed several new faces that he hopes can transform State up front. One of those players that was the biggest portal wins for the Bulldogs was Steen who transferred in from Virginia.
The Miami native elevated his stock over the course of the last two seasons. He entered college as a low-rated three-star recruit out of St. Thomas Acquinas. Rivals didn’t have Steen rated as he slid mostly under the radar, but Virginia thought they had evaluated a solid player on the line.
Among Steen’s high school offers were Jackson State, Tennessee State and Mississippi Valley State with New Mexico State and Virginia the “major” offers on his list. Steen committed to the Cavaliers and he brought a winning mentality to Charlottesville as a three-time state champion.

After redshirting in his first year on campus, Steen played in eight games as a redshirt freshman and was starting for the Cavs late in the year at right tackle with five-straight starts to close out the season. That led to a huge sophomore year for Steen as he became the team’s full-time starter at right tackle with 11 of the 12 starts on the year coming that that position.
During his time holding down the right side of the line, Steen surrendered just two sacks in 736 snaps and he was primed for an even bigger year three as a starter. Steen instead decided to enter the transfer portal during the spring and it was perfect timing for Loadholt.
Steen narrowed things down between State and Colorado and the Bulldogs would win out in his recruitment. He missed the spring with the Bulldogs, but he’s set to compete for a starting tackle spot in training camp next month.
Additionally, he also has a brother on his way to Starkville as 2026 lineman Dylan Steen committed to the Bulldogs last month.
