100 Day Bulldog Countdown: 18 Days - No. 18, WR Jaron Glover and SAF Sekou Smith Jr.

Year two of the Jeff Lebby era has arrived and the Mississippi State coach is back to work.
After a disappointing first season, the coach and his staff are doing what they can to get things back on track in Starkville. The players on the field will be the difference for State this season if they are to make a return and we’re going to discuss every single one of them over the course of the next few months.
As we do every year, we’re counting down 100 days until State’s first game at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on August 30. Over this period of time, we’ll breakdown every scholarship player on the roster, look back at great moments in MSU history and even talk about legends that have come before the current Bulldogs.
Today, we look at a couple of new faces on each side of the ball.
18 Days: No. 18, Jr. Wide Receiver Jaron Glover
For the first three years of Glover’s time in college football, there’s been some good moments, but Glover is looking for a breakthrough with the Bulldog wide outs.
Glover grew up in Florida where he attended Riverview High School in Sarasota. It was there where he would take himself up to four-star status when On3 tabbed him as the No. 46 player in the state in the 2022 class. Offers came in from Michigan, State, Indiana, Wake Forest and Florida State to name a few, and Glover would choose to leave ACC/SEC country to head to the B1G to play for Michigan State.
Before Glover took on life at a different MSU, he was trying to work his way up the depth chart in East Lansing. He had a catch in his only game as a true freshman in 2022 and then was fighting for a starting position by the next season.
As a redshirt freshman, Glover played in eight games and had worked himself into a starting position for the last four contests before he went down with an injury to close the season. He finished his abbreviated season with 14 catches for 261 yards and he was the team-leader with 18.6 yards per catch. Glover would play in nine games and earn five starts last season as he caught 15 passes for 192 yards and two touchdowns and three of those catches went for 20 or more yards.
After the season, Glover decided to hit the transfer portal for his next stop in college football with the Bulldogs earning his signature. He has been in Starkville since the spring and is fighting for reps with a new-look wide out group under Chad Bumphis.

No. 18, Safety Sekou Smith Jr.
Another newcomer to the team is on the defensive side of the ball and from the freshman class as Smith brings some intrigue to the defensive backfield.
A native of Miami, Smith comes into his freshman season 6’0, 180 pounds and looking to work his way up the depth chart as his time continues in Starkville. The offer sheet was good for Smith as he had early verbals from Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M and Louisville.
The Bulldogs jumped into the mix last summer and got Smith in for a visit and he would commit to State. His senior season that followed was cut short due to an injury but he was playing on both sides of the ball and had 16 catches for 367 yards and four touchdowns prior to the season coming to an end.
Smith spent a lot of time at wide receiver last season and has some versatility to play multiple positions. However, the Florida product is expected to play safety for the Bulldogs.
