100-Day Bulldog Countdown: 76 Days, No. 76 OL Albert Reese

Year two of the Jeff Lebby era has arrived and the Mississippi State coach is back to work.
After a disappointing first season, the coach and his staff are doing what they can to get things back on track in Starkville. The players on the field will be the difference for State this season if they are to make a return and we’re going to discuss every single one of them over the course of the next few months.
As we do every year, we’re counting down 100 days until State’s first game at Southern Miss in Hattiesburg on August 30. Over this period of time, we’ll breakdown every scholarship player on the roster, look back at great moments in MSU history and even talk about legends that have come before the current Bulldogs.
Today, we look at a veteran offensive lineman looking for a big final year.
76 Days: No. 76, Senior OT Albert Reese
“Big Al” has been a staple for State for the last five years and has been fiercely loyal to the team that got him to campus.
Reese came from Canada to the United States in high school and played his football for Clearwater Academy International. As a 6’7, 295-pounder, Reese had the look of a future star on the next level and colleges began to take notice. Arizona State, Maryland, Michigan State, Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss and State were the top offers.
Rutgers was also one of the Power 4 schools to throw out an offer and Reese would commit to them in the summer of 2020. After holding firm in his commitment to the Scarlet Knights throughout his senior year, Reese had his attention caught by the Bulldogs with a December offer. Within three days, he had decommitted from Rutgers and was coming to Starkville.

Reese dressed out for the Bulldogs as a true freshman and even played in three games while maintaining his redshirt. As a redshirt freshman, Reese would play in all 13 games during the 2022 season and help the Bulldogs to a ReliaQuest Bowl win.
He played in all 12 games and allowed just two hurries and no sacks in 79 snaps. For the first time in his career, Reese would become a full-time starter last season and would be the Bulldogs’ right tackle for the first 10 games before playing the final two at right guard.
Reese also become a respected leader on the team as he was chosen as one of three players to make the trip to SEC Media Days to represent the team. In the spring, Reese sat out due to an injury and is working his way back into gear to have one final big run for the Bulldogs. With the added depth to the line, we’ll see exactly where new OL coach Phil Loadholt plays him.
